OpenAI Secures $110 Billion Funding at $730 Billion Valuation, Expands AWS Partnership
OpenAI has closed a monumental $110 billion funding round, achieving a $730 billion pre-money valuation—a significant jump from October's $500 billion secondary financing valuation. Amazon led the investment with $50 billion, while Nvidia and SoftBank contributed $30 billion each. The round remains open for additional participants.
The tech giant simultaneously announced a multiyear strategic partnership with OpenAI, focusing on developing customized AI models for Amazon's customer-facing applications. OpenAI will expand its existing $38 billion Amazon Web Services agreement by an additional $100 billion over eight years. AWS becomes the exclusive third-party cloud provider for OpenAI's enterprise platform, Frontier.
"AI is transforming the whole economy," stated OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, emphasizing the need for "collective computing power" to meet global demand. Amazon's Andy Jassy noted the early-stage nature of the AI industry, suggesting untapped potential remains.
